"Why do I like volunteering with and supporting Creating Opportunities for Guatemalans -
First, I love teaching math and want to continue teaching as long as I can.
Second, I want to give back to this country that has provided me with such joy.
What a perfect opportunity I have found to realize both desires - volunteering at Creating Opportunities for Guatemalans! The kids who come to the program each day are kind, innocent and curious. It’s my goal to increase not only their abilities in mathematics but also their love for it. Math education is lacking here in Guatemala; I feel that I can fill in some of the gaps for these students. When their eyes light up with an understanding that has eluded them or they clamor to play a math game, I feel I am successful. Also, the staff here is so dedicated to the program and so hard-working - it is a pleasure and an honor to work alongside them."
Miss T - There is nothing more sacred or satisfying than making a difference in another person’s life. As a volunteer for Creating Opportunities for Guatemalans, you will get back much more than you give. The young people are such a joy to work with. Thirsty for knowledge, they have a spirit of hard work and dedication to becoming the best they can be for themselves, their families and their community. The children have few resources and truly appreciate having caring volunteers. I hope you will consider joining the team. You need no special skills, only a caring heart and a desire to help.
